Eragon

My only exceptions for sci-fi or fantasy would be the Star Wars movies and The Lord of the Ring Trilogy. But I actually hated the Eragon movie. I don't have the patience to read through about the total of 10,000 pages for the Lord of the Rings books. And I can take so much of the people who believe they are Star War characters or star trek it's all the same to me.

There are those movies like Planet of the Apes that really shouldn't of made remakes just because now that there are better special effects the producers of these movies seem to cheap to spend money on decent actors.

Clearly the actors, director, just about anyone involved in the making of the movie except Christopher Paolini don't know the first thing about the book. When I was watching the movie, the first thing I thought was how could someone who could create another entire world in his head (aside from being lonely jk) could sell his material to screenwriters who probably just got out of high school. No, that would be an insult to high school students.

Eragon is a boy who is orphaned but lives with his cousin and Uncle. They lives in the magical land of Alagesia, which is ruled by a dragon rider, Galbatorix. One day, he finds a stone that he brings home and hatches into a blue dragon. Galbatorix's minions, creatures called Ra'zacs, go after Eragon and his dragon, Saphira.
As he is rynning away from the Ra'zacs because they have blown up his farm and killed his uncle, he meets Brom, a story teller, who helps with Saphira and tells Eragon all he knows about dragons.
Along the way the encounter a stranger named Murtagh who helps them out of a sticky situation. They are attacked again and this time Brom doesn't survive. He tells Eragon about how he was a dragon rider before and how he should seek the Varden to help him.
Eragon dreams of an elf and eventually finds where she is captive and rescues her. They all travel to the Varden to return the elf to her home. The book ends with a battle, with Eragon injured but alive.

I guess they couldn't even shell out for good creative directors either. Of course, when your reading a book you put your own spin on things and visualize the way things play out. I don't think anybody would think that Saphira would look like a chicken or that elves would...well look like normal people. The movie didn't even follow the book. Pretty much the only things that stayed true were the names and the weather. I won't go into the details.

The book: maybe 9. The movie: 0

Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone

I'm going to make a series of blogs about the Harry Potter saga. I'll try to do one at least once a week. This way by the time the highly anticipated 6th movie comes out i can write something about that.

The Entire world knows about Harry Potter. It is one of the most read books in the world... I think. But, there is an end to all great things. The final book came out August of last year, but the movie has yet to be made. Harry Potter and the Half Blood Prince is coming out July 15th of this year. And I'm sure I' not going to be the only one waiting outside at midnight the night before.

Most books are much better then the hollywood tainted versions. But the Harry Potters were the closest to the mark.

Everyone knows the story, Harry Potter is a baby when his parents are killed by Lord Voldemort who tries to kill Harry but doesn't succeed. He loses all his powers and only leaves a lightning scar on baby Harry's forehead.
Harry goes to live with his last living relatives: the Dursley's. His Aunt Petunia, Uncle Vernon, and cousin Dudley. He dislikes them, and they in turn hate him. On his 11th birthday he finds out that he is a wizard. He goes to Hogwarts, a school just for wizards like him. He befriends a boy named Ronald Weasly and a girl named Hermione Granger. He makes enemies with Draco Malfoy.
Harry is always suspicious of his potion's teacher, Professor Snape. Harry encounters a series of events that only make his suspicion stronger, including a troll on the lose, a three headed dog, and a fixed quitish match.
To Voldemort gether, Harry, Ron, and Hermione find what has been causing all this trouble. His stuttering defense against the dark art's teacher Professor Quarl had been helping go after the sorcerer's stone, which would bring Voldemort back to full power.
Harry defeats Quarl and Voldemort goes away, but harry is assured he will come back.

The movie followed the book pretty well. It was almost exactly what I pictured when I first read it. The movie almost outshines the book because of it's smart quirks and quick wit. I think British accents make anybody sound really smart or overly snotty. But the movie did a great job of making it just right.

Twilight

Like the majority of girls in the world, I love twilight. But as a fan, The movie wasn't to true to the book. I was expecting a lot more. The book was by far one of my favorites, and as a lot of people are wondering, wouldn't the screenwriter actually read the book before they tried to to bring to life Stephanie Meyer characters and the setting that she made all readers visualize.
But, If you haven't seen the movie yet, (Non-twilighters and a lot of guys who think their to macho) I'll give a little recap:

Bella Swan is a 17 year old that just moved in with her dad.
She had been living in Arizona with her mom for most of her life.
She hates the cold and the rain(ironically enough)
She is a transferring student into Forks High school, the only high school in the small town.
Bella tries to keep to herself, befriending a few people, and captivating a few guys.
Edward Cullen just moved back to Forks.
The last time he was there:50 years ago.
He is a junior. He is in his 17 year old perfection. He is a vampire.
Edward's family consist of his 2 sisters: Alice and Rosalie
2 Brothers: Emmet and Jasper
Parents: Carlisle and Esme.
Edward and his family don't drink human blood, they are "vegetarians" who only drink the blood of animals.
Edward can read anybody's mind. With the exception of Bella.
He is drawn to Bella... in the best and worst of ways.
They eventually fall in love, but her blood has a distinct smell that he is drawn too.
He does everything he can to stay away from her but eventually can't.
But staying away might have been better, since some vampires that do drink human blood come along and crave Bella's blood too.
James is a nomad, feeding on humans and moving along.
He is in a pack with his mate, Victoria, and another, Laurent.
James and Edward have a fight, resulting in putting Bella in the hospital and James, dead.
Both Movie and book end at the prom, where Bella asks to become a vampire, and Edward says no.

The books shows research and is pretty correct to life here in Washington. Aside from the obvious stereotypes used in the movie for all the people in Washington (I mean, we don't all talk about fishing 24/7) The movie was ok. I wouldn't say the making of it was good, terrible even, but the story its self was good enough to make up for it. I would give it 3 3/4 stars. The movie will never get old for me, but the fact that just about all the humans in the movie talk about rain or try to get a laugh by holding up random animals does.
I would say watch the movie first, so you won't be as disappointed.
